About

Hi! I’m Anela (ah-nel-ah), a kānaka maoli girl living in the Netherlands. I’ve lived abroad and traveled much in my life, speak four languages, been a research fellow at the University of Amsterdam, and have studied and graduated from the University of Minnesota. (Um, none of these degrees were in creative writing. The paperwork on the tuition fees definitely had a post-apocalyptic bent to it though…)

Nowadays, when I’m not dodging rainy Dutch skies on my bike, I’m at home with my hubby, two sons and a daughter, reading books and writing about universes where everything goes terribly wrong.

Check out My Books to have a look at my published novels or sign up for the Newsletter for monthly updates and other fun stuff.

You can also grab Deviation, a FREE Sci-Fi short story here.

One of my favorite quotes that sums up life rather succinctly: By Jack London

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”

  1. Hi Anela D,

Just wanted to let you know that I’ve just set up a site sort of like NetGalley where you can review free books online. It’s here to help self-published authors get a little more attention than they’re getting, but I hope it’ll do nice things for you too. Let’s see:
    – you can post your website in your profile so you can get some backlink love from Google
    – I’ll help tweet your reviews
    – you can make some coffee money by adding your Amazon Associates ID to the book reviews and get commissions on any purchases made through your reviews
    – …and it’s a new place to make a name for youself. Plus, I can imagine there’s a slight prestige in reviewing obscure books. Good reviewers will be loved on this site and if you’re into being loved, come check it out. If there are other benefits, things you, as a book blogger, are looking for, please let me know and I’ll see if I can build it into the site.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this. The site is http://www.paperbackreviewer.com and you can sign up with your Twitter or FB account.
Hope to see you on the site!

    Best regards,

    John Khoury

  3. What a great blog! And I appreciate your idea of highlighting self-dubbed books. There are some amazing authors out there who produce quality self published reads. And you’re in MN…got to love following another Minnesotan bookworm!

    • Hi Alexia! Thanks for following, and I agree, Indie writers absolutely rock! And since you’re from Minnesota too, I feel obliged to talk weather with you because, um, this 60 degree thing in November weather is freaking me out.

Hello Anela. I could not find a contact email address here so I’m contacting you here to kindly request a review.

My name is Skylerr Darren and I’m a 20-year-old psychological thriller author. At the age of seventeen I wrote and published a dark novel titled “Interview with the Devil Part 1 Victor’s Account.” It details the story of a young man named Victor who has suffered through a troubled childhood and now as a young adult desires to become a prominent psychologist.

As he struggles to find himself and mentally mature from the unspeakable tragedies that plagued his adolescence, Victor finds himself growing distant from himself and the world itself, all the while trying to move forward and understand why his family behaved the way that they did. Victor experiences extremely nightmarish dreams and disturbed facades to the point that he doesn’t even know what’s real anymore. I believe that this book is a perfect combination of surrealism and psychotic horror.

If you’re interested, please email me at skylerrdarren@yahoo.com. I can send you a pdf or mobi file of the book. Thank you.
